As part of the second phase of the 2021–2025 Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA), the Teachers Service Commission (TSC) is scheduled to implement a pay raise for teachers in July 2025.
For teachers in all job groups, this phase, which started on July 1, 2024, includes increased allowances and wage modifications.
The National Treasury has given the TSC Ksh17 billion to help with this. Ksh4.7 billion of this sum is allocated for the teachers’ health insurance program, Ksh10 billion for wage adjustments, and the remaining sum is used for various welfare-related expenses.
The salary increments vary by job group. For instance, Chief Principals in Grade D5 (T-Scale 15) will see their basic salaries range from Ksh131,380 to Ksh159,534, while Senior Principals in Grade D4 (T-Scale 14) will earn between Ksh118,242 and Ksh143,581 .
Additionally, teachers in rural areas (Cluster 4) will benefit from increased house allowances, with some receiving up to Ksh6,934 more per month .
It’s important to note that while the TSC is implementing these changes, teacher unions such as the Kenya National Union of Teachers (KNUT) and the Kenya Union of Post Primary Education Teachers (KUPPET) are advocating for further salary increases of up to 60% in the upcoming 2025–2029 CBA .
