TSC Stops Employment Of P1 PTE Teachers. The Primary Teachers Certificate Training (PTE) program will no longer be offered. This is as announced by the Teachers Service Commission (TSC). In 2024, it is frequently referred to as the P1 certificate program.
This sounds a huge blow to thousands of teachers who have graduated in this course. These teachers have been rendered Ineligible for employment by the Teachers Service Commission.
The TSC’s evaluation of the legislation governing the teaching profession led to the decision. This has caused stakeholders in the industry to respond in differing ways.
TSC has announced that the diploma level will now be the starting point for the admission qualification for teacher training.

Additionally, the commission suggests that candidates for teaching positions should have received at least a C plain overall. In addition, a D+ in mathematics and a C– in English.
After reaching an agreement with the ministry of education, TSC has committed to presenting the proposal for the review of teaching requirements in parliament.
TSC defends the action by claiming that the revisions follow the provisions of the constitution. Additionally, they are based on suggestions made by the presidential working group on education reforms.
As a result, applicants holding a certificate of primary education may no longer be eligible to apply for TSC positions. Rather, priority will be given to those who have finished a degree program.
The panel advises teachers who are currently working and hold a PTE Certificate to work toward obtaining a diploma. This is in order to fulfill the standards of the Competency-Based Curriculum (CBC).
The current minimal qualification for anyone wishing to enter the teaching profession is a Diploma in Education.
Furthermore, for those who have finished Early Childhood Development Education (ECDE), PTE, DTE, BED, DIP ED, and SNE training programs, the commission permits post-training upgrading certificates.
According to TSC’s proposal, educators who meet the aforementioned requirements will be authorized to instruct students in grades 1 through 3 as well as grades 4 through 6.
