Schools across Kenya are approaching an important stage of the 2026 academic calendar as learners complete classroom activities and prepare for national examinations.
The coming weeks will be particularly significant for candidates transitioning between levels of education and those sitting their final secondary school examinations.
According to the dates outlined in the report, schools are expected to close on October 23, 2026, marking a break in the regular school calendar as preparations for national assessments continue. However, a number of schools will close earlier by 16th October to pave way for candidates to have easy time for revision.
However, parents, teachers and learners should confirm the closure date through official Ministry of Education announcements to avoid relying on unverified information.
Learners in Grade 6 are scheduled to undertake the Kenya Primary School Education Assessment (KPSEA) from October 26 to October 29, 2026.
The assessment is part of the evaluation process for learners completing primary school under the Competency-Based Curriculum and preparing for the next stage of their education.
Grade 9 candidates are also expected to sit the Kenya Junior School Education Assessment (KJSEA), with the reported examination period running from October 26 to November 5, 2026. The results will contribute to assessing learners’ progress as they prepare to advance to senior school.
Meanwhile, Form Four candidates are scheduled to sit the Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) examinations between November 2 and November 20, 2026.
These examinations remain an important milestone for students completing secondary education, with their performance helping determine opportunities for further studies and career training.
As the examination period draws closer, schools are expected to concentrate on revision, completing assessments and ensuring candidates understand the requirements of their respective examinations. Parents and guardians also have an important role in providing learners with the necessary materials, encouragement and a suitable environment for preparation.
