To improve the teacher-to-student ratio in public schools, the government plans to hire an additional 24,000 teachers by the end of the year.
Julius Bitok, principal secretary for basic education, stated that the hiring will bring the total number of teachers hired in the past two years to 100,000.
In order to increase staffing levels and assist schools in meeting the needs of the Curriculum-Based Education implementation, 76,000 teachers have already been hired at the junior and secondary education levels.
In order to reach the 116,000 instructors promised in five years under the present administration, the government plans to hire an additional 16,000 teachers starting next year.
