As part of this calculated process, some job groupings will be phased out and others will be merged to conform to the commission’s updated in-service teacher grading scheme by 2024.
The TSC teacher job classifications and income levels are broadened by the new framework, ranging from the highest-paid Chief Principals to the lowest-paid Primary Teacher I.
There are two phases to the compensation system implementation for TSC teachers in 2024: the first phase begins on July 1, 2023, and the second step, which targets active instructors explicitly, begins on July 1, 2024.

Substantial changes in pay grades are apparent across various titles within the TSC hierarchy, encompassing Chief Principals, Senior Principals, Principals, Deputy Principals, Senior Masters, Lecturers, and teachers in various other positions.
Anticipated Salary range for chief principals
For instance, Chief Principals may anticipate a salary range of Ksh. 131,380 to Ksh. 159,534, while Primary Teachers II, currently earning Ksh. 22,793, might experience an increase to Ksh. 28,491.
Salaries for roles such as Senior Lecturers, Senior Masters, and Deputy Head Teachers will also be adjusted accordingly.
Moreover, the commission has introduced remunerative and reimbursable allowances for teachers, with the latter specifically addressing travel expenses and per diem allowances upon application.
These changes aim to rectify the longstanding issue of low teacher compensation, particularly upon full implementation.
The phased approach outlined in the 2024 CBA is poised to bring substantial benefits to primary and secondary school teachers, aligning with Kenya’s economic growth trajectory.
