Teachers seeking employment have received an important update from the Teachers Service Commission (TSC) ahead of the next recruitment exercise scheduled for November 2026.
TSC Chairperson Dr Jamleck Muturi has confirmed that the Commission will continue recruiting teachers through an established process in which vacancies are advertised, qualified applicants submit their applications and shortlisted candidates attend interviews.
TSC APPOINTMENT LETTERS
The clarification comes after concerns were raised about claims that politicians were involved in distributing TSC appointment letters. Muturi said the Commission operates independently and does not issue employment letters to politicians for distribution. He maintained that recruitment and appointment decisions remain within the Commission’s constitutional mandate.
The TSC chairperson said the next recruitment exercise is expected to begin in November, providing another opportunity for qualified and registered teachers seeking employment.
The Commission has also been working to improve teacher workforce planning by updating records of unemployed registered teachers. Earlier in the year, TSC directed registered teachers who were not employed by the Commission to update their personal and professional information through its online platform. The information was intended to help the Commission assess teacher demand and supply when making recruitment decisions.
Reports published earlier this year indicated that the November recruitment programme could involve thousands of new teaching positions, including internship and replacement opportunities. A May report projected the recruitment of 16,000 intern teachers and more than 5,000 replacement teachers.
TSC has also reminded applicants that its recruitment process is conducted through official channels and does not require payment. Its online recruitment system allows applicants to apply for advertised vacancies and track the progress of their applications.
The latest clarification is therefore significant for unemployed teachers preparing for the upcoming exercise. Applicants will need to ensure that their TSC registration details, academic qualifications and other professional information are accurate before applying.
The Commission is expected to provide the official recruitment advertisement and detailed requirements when the November exercise opens. Teachers are advised to rely on official TSC communication when checking available vacancies and application instructions.
