TSC Revised Allowances Per Job Group. The government has only authorized the Teachers Service Commission (TSC) to hire and compensate teachers in Kenya via the TSC Portal.
Equitable terms and conditions of service for teachers are the commission’s responsibility.
Many teacher benefits, such as housing allowance, leave allowance, and commuter allowance, have been impacted by the significant increases in teachers’ compensation over the years.
In this article, am going to discuss elaborately the teachers revised Allowances according to the collective bargaining Agreement (CBA) of 2021-2025.
Classification of Teachers Job groups and Workstations
Teachers in Kenya are paid Allowances based on job groups and Workstations.
It is integral to not that only permanent and pensionable teachers receives Allowances from the teacher employer.

Former Major Municipalities (Mombasa, Kisumu, Nakuru, Nyeri, Eldoret, Thika, Kisii, Malindi and Kitale).
Other former Municipalities; Ruiru, Kikuyu, Kitui, Machakos, Mlolongo, Athi River, Vihiga, Wote, Mumias, Bomet, Limuru, Kericho, Kimilili, Kakamega, Kapsabet, Kiambu, Bungoma, Webuye, Busia, Runyenjes, Migori, Embu, Homa Bay, Lodwar, Meru, Nyahururu, Nanyuki, Maua, Voi, Siaya, Chuka and Kerugoya/ Kutu.
Other areas; includes all regions not mentioned in bullet 1-3 above.
Teachers in Nairobi County receive the highest salary Allowances compared to their Counterparts in remote regions.
Further, it should be noted that teachers in the highest job groups earn more Allowances than their colleagues in lower job groups.
Types of allowances paid by the TSC
1) Remunerative allowances
Along with the teacher’s remuneration, remunerative benefits are submitted. As a result, it is frequently given to the instructor each month when their paycheck is due.
2) Automatic allowances
These allowances are automatically paid to teachers monthly. This includes

medical (No longer available to teachers; it is paid directly to Minet insurance and another is given to the NHIF)

i) TSC house allowance per job group
Teachers with bigger job groups receive more Allowances that their Counterparts in lower job groups.
For instance a teacher in job group D5 in Nairobi receives allowance of 50k his counterpart in remote school receive 35k per month.
ii) TSC commuter allowance per job group
Just like house allowances, commuter Allowances are based on job groups. Teachers in B5 and C1 job groups receive a stipend of Ksh.4,000 while those in C2, C3, and C4 receive Ksh.5,000, Ksh.6,000 and Ksh.8,000, respectively.

iii) Hardship allowances per job group
TSC Teachers’ hardship allowance increases gradually per TSC job groups and their salary scale.

With new CBA in place teachers leave allowance go as per job groups.
