TSC Details On Recruitment Of 20000 Intern Teachers. The Teachers Service Commission (TSC) will hire 20,000 instructors as interns in October of this year. Of them, 2,000 will be used for primary education and 18,000 for junior secondary education.
The Competency Based Curriculum (CBC) has already attracted 56,000 teachers, according to data disclosed by Dr. Belio Kipsang, the Principal Secretary (PS) for Basic Education. The 20,000 additional staff members will fortify the program even further.
PS Kipsang added that the government is constructing 18,000 classrooms by January of the next year to accommodate students in Grade 9.
Of them, 11,000 are funded by development partners, while 7,000 are being built by the Constituency Development Fund (CDF).
He stressed that the government is working with several partners to make sure the required infrastructure is in place and that the government is fully committed to the success of the CBC.
He added, “Plans are in place to guarantee a seamless transition from Grade 9 to Grade 10 in 2026.”

By January 2025, TSC will also verify 46,000 intern instructors as full-time, pensionable staff members. For this endeavor, the government has set out Ksh 18.7 billion.
Upon contract termination, the teachers will obtain internship certificates, which will improve their prospects of being hired again in the future.
18,000 junior high school and 2,000 elementary school interns whose contracts were supposed to expire on August 31, 2024, have already had their terms extended by four months by TSC.
The goal of the one-year Teacher Internship Program is to prepare candidates for teaching by strengthening their skill set. It provides mentorship and practical experience to unemployed registered teachers, enabling them to get teaching experience.
TSC internship applications must be submitted online. Candidates must have a PTE or DPTE certificate and be registered with the TSC in order to be eligible for internships in elementary schools.
A minimum of a diploma, a C+ in the KCSE, and C+ grades in two teaching topics are required for junior secondary school applicants. TSC registration is also required.
A copy of their Teacher Registration Certificate, National ID or Passport, National Council for Persons with Disability (NCPWD) card (if applicable), passport-size pictures, NHIF card, and KRA PIN are among the documents that applicants must present during verification.
Primary school interns receive Ksh 15,000 per month, while junior secondary school interns receive Ksh 20,000. Upon program completion, interns will get a certificate that will help confirm their appointment to permanent posts.
