TSC Confirms It Will Not Employ These Teachers. The Teachers Service Commission normally recruits teachers in Kenya. The Teachers hired can be on internship terma or permanent terms. Other than hiring, the commission can also fire or transfer Teachers.
Starting January 2024, the Primary Teachers Certificate Training PTE course, also referred to as P1 certificate slots, will no longer be offered by the Teachers Service Commission (TSC).
This is based on the TSC study of the regulations pertaining to the teaching profession. This is a plan that has elicited conflicting responses from teachers.
The diploma level is now the entry qualification for teacher training, according to TSC.
TSC is also suggesting that a person’s score in mathematics and English courses should be C- (minus) and at least a D+ in order for them to be eligible to become a teacher.
After reaching a consensus with the education ministry, TSC committed to presenting the idea for a reform of the teaching criteria in parliament.
The TSC, which is supporting this action, stated that the recommendations of the presidential working party on education reforms as well as the requirements of the constitution serve as the foundation for the forthcoming reforms in this area.
TSC Confirms It Will Not Employ These Teachers
This implies that TSC may not recruit teachers with a primary school credential in the future. However, instead, it will give preference to those who have completed a degree program.
In order to meet the most recent CBC criteria, the commission is advising teachers who are currently working and using the aforementioned PTE Certificate to upgrade to a diploma.
Currently, the minimal qualification for entering the teaching profession is a diploma in education.
In addition, the commission permits post-training upgrade certificates in the event that an individual has completed an ECDE, PTE, DTE, BED, DIP ED, and SNE training programmes.
TSC suggests that the aforementioned educators receive certification to instruct students in grades 1 through 3 in addition to grades 4 through 6.
