After the Kenya Junior School Education Assessment (KJSEA) results were released, Julius Bitok, Principal Secretary for Basic Education, revealed when senior school students will be able to view their Grade 10 placements.
The placements are applicable to students moving to Grade 10 in 2026 under the Competency-Based Education (CBE), PS Bitok announced on Wednesday, December 17.
The PS states that the grade allocations will be made public by Friday, December 19. He added that by texting their KNEC assessment number to 22263, candidates will be able to verify the senior school they have been assigned to.
During the release of KJSEA results last week, Education Cabinet Secretary Julius Ogamba said that learners transitioning to Grade 10 will be placed in senior schools based on their performance and selected pathway.
In line with the recommendation by the Presidential Working Party on Education Reform, CS Ogamba said the assessment of learners at Grade 9 shall comprise 20% from the Kenya Primary School Education Assessment (KPSEA), 20% from School Based Assessment in Grades 7 and 8 and 60% Summative Evaluation at Grade 9.
“This Summative Evaluation is the KJSEA.”
As you already know, we clustered current secondary schools based on the pathways that they will offer. This formed the basis of the selections of schools that learners and parents undertook earlier in the year.
As we speak today, the total capacity of the 9,540 Senior Schools is 2.2 million learners. A total of 929,262 learners will be exiting secondary school after KCSE this year. Senior Schools will have an extra classroom(s) left by the fact that we will only have three classes at this level.
These classrooms are expected to provide extra space, enabling us to avoid overcrowding. We therefore have more than enough capacity to accommodate all the learners whose results we are releasing today.
The placement exercise will start next week, and is expected to be completed by 20th December, 2025. Grade 10 learners will be expected to report to their respective Senior Schools starting 12th January, 2025
