Litein Boys High School in Bureti Constituency , Kericho County , has now been closed indefinitely. This is following a violent night of student unrest that left property of unknown value destroyed and learning disrupted.
The chaos erupted on Sunday night, with students reportedly vandalising school property, including dormitory windows, classrooms and sections of the dining hall. Desks were overturned, books scattered, and several light fixtures smashed during the fracas.
Neighbours reported hearing loud commotion, shouting and banging from the school compound late into the night, prompting security officers to rush to the scene.
School administrators, together with police officers from Bureti, intervened to restore calm and ensure the safety of the students and staff.
Confirming the incident, area education officials said the closure was a necessary step to prevent further escalation and to allow investigations to take place.
Parents have been advised to pick up their children as the institution undertakes repairs and consults with the stakeholders to resolve underlying grievances.

The unrest is suspected to have been triggered by dissatisfaction over school management decisions. In addition, the decision to deny the students a chance to watch the Arsenal vs Manchester city football match, though authorities have yet to confirm the exact cause.
Bureti Sub-County Police Commander noted that calm had been restored by Monday morning and no injuries were reported; however, an assessment of the damage is ongoing, and investigations are expected to reveal those responsible for the destruction.
