The Teachers Service Commission (TSC) has officially confirmed a salary increment for Kenyan teachers beginning July 2025, following the implementation of the newly signed 2025–2029 Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA).
This announcement comes as a relief to thousands of teachers across the country who have been pushing for better pay and improved working conditions.
New TSC Salary Structure
The new salary structure is expected to benefit all cadres of teachers, from classroom teachers to school administrators, and will be implemented in phases over the four-year period of the CBA.
According to TSC, the 2025–2029 CBA introduces a progressive increment in the basic salaries of teachers across various job groups. The implementation will begin with the July 2025 payroll.
Classroom Teachers in lower job groups (B5–C2) will enjoy a notable percentage increase in basic salary, aimed at boosting the morale of educators at the grassroots.
Senior teachers and institutional administrators (Job Groups C3–D5), including senior masters, deputy principals, and headteachers, will receive structured salary adjustments in line with their administrative responsibilities.
Special Needs Education (SNE) teachers and those serving in hardship areas are also expected to benefit from enhanced allowances under the revised salary structure.
The basic salary increase will be implemented in three progressive phases:
Phase I (2025–2026), Phase II (2026–2027), and Phase III (2027–2029).
In a statement released by the Commission, TSC CEO Dr. Nancy Macharia confirmed that the new salary structure has been harmonized in consultation with the Salaries and Remuneration Commission (SRC) and aligns with the government’s broader strategy to improve teacher welfare and quality of education.
“We are pleased to announce that beginning this July, teachers will receive enhanced salaries as agreed in the 2025–2029 CBA. This is part of our ongoing commitment to reward, motivate, and retain talent in the teaching profession,” Dr. Macharia stated.
She also assured that the increment will be reflected in the July 2025 payslips, and all necessary payroll adjustments have already been effected.
While the detailed salary scale by job group will be released officially via the TSC portal, preliminary data shows estimated increments as follows:
Job Group B5 (Primary Teacher II): Ksh 24,250 → Ksh 28,500
Job Group C1 (Primary Teacher I): Ksh 27,195 → Ksh 32,000
Job Group C3 (Senior Teacher I/Secondary Teacher I): Ksh 41,343 → Ksh 47,200
Job Group D1 (Deputy Principal II): Ksh 77,840 → Ksh 85,000
Job Group D5 (Principal/Chief Principal): Ksh 157,656 → Ksh 165,000+
These changes will be accompanied by enhanced commuter, housing, and hardship allowances, especially for those serving in marginalized or hardship zones.
