The Teachers Service Commission (TSC) has announced that it will start paying acting allowances to teachers who have been assigned to acting roles.
This move aims to recognize and compensate teachers who take on additional responsibilities beyond their regular teaching duties.
The TSC has stated that the acting allowance will be paid to teachers who have been appointed to acting positions, such as deputy principals, principals, or other administrative roles, while the substantive holders of those positions are on leave or have been seconded to other duties.
The allowance is expected to motivate teachers to take on leadership roles and to encourage them to develop their skills and competencies in educational leadership and management.
The TSC has also stated that the payment of acting allowances will help to address the issue of teacher shortages in schools, as it will incentivize teachers to take on acting roles and provide leadership and management support to their schools.
It’s worth noting that the TSC has been working to improve the welfare and working conditions of teachers in Kenya, and this move is part of those efforts. The commission has also been working to ensure that teachers are fairly compensated for their work and that they are able to provide quality education to learners.
