TSC To Review Monthly Allowances Upwards. The Kenya National Union of Teachers (Knut) has requested that the national government, through the Teachers Service Commission (TSC), raise teachers’ allowances in areas where they are experiencing hardship.
KNUT union officials claim that these teachers work in hazardous environments in areas that are currently vulnerable to banditry, instilling a continual concern for their safety.
The social and economic standing of these instructors needs to be improved as they provide service in underprivileged areas, as stated by Knut National Vice Chairperson Joseph Malel.
TSC To Review Monthly Allowances Upwards
Malel bemoaned the recent bandit-inflicted deaths of teachers in Baringo and Samburu counties, calling on the government to act quickly to place additional National Police Reservists (NPRs) at schools situated in high-risk areas for bandits.
Malel further emphasised non the need to declare these areas as disturbed and Teachers Service Commission (TSC) therefore should deploy adequate teachers for the sake of the education of students and pay them more allowances.
Concern were also raised over inadequate infrastructure in many schools which Include lack of staff quarters, lack of staff rooms, no electricity water supply which make teachers and students to rely on makeshift facilities in trading centres.
On matters teachers and new 2024 Bill, union rejected it saying its punitive and does not cater for teachers’ interests.
They raised concerns about the newly employed intern teachers who TSC has not given good schemes for permanent and pensionable terms to boost their welfare.
