Early in the upcoming school year, 1,208 primary deputy headteachers will be elevated to headteacher positions in a variety of regular and special education schools.
School administrators are the target of 5,690 promotion vacancies that the Teachers Service Commission (TSC) has advertised.
The deputy headteachers who are currently serving as heads of institutions (HOI) will have an advantage in promotions, per the TSC score sheet.
The most important factor will be experience filling in as a headmaster. One’s tenure as a deputy headteacher will demonstrate his suitability for the position.
TSC has earlier stated that individuals who held the position of deputy headteacher for a minimum of five years ought to be taken into consideration.
In the Advert number 03/2024 the Commission has listed the requirements for promotion of the deputy headteachers as follows;

After application the teachers will be invited for interviews after successful shortlisting. They will produce a number of documents before the interviewing panels.
Some of the documents include the TSC appointment letter to current grade, and the last three years TPAD ratings as well as KCPE and KCSE performance for their schools.
