TSC Revises Qualifications For JSS Principals For 2025. The new competency-based curriculum is being implemented nationwide in place of the 8.4.4 curriculum.
A few years ago, a new curriculum was implemented, and this year, the first class was moved to a junior secondary school.
Currently, primary schools serve as the home of all junior schools. Consequently, the head teachers of the primary schools have taken on the role of acting interim principals.
Since the beginning of the junior school transition in January, they have been acting.
The Kenya Elementary Schools Head Teachers Association (KEPSHA) general convention was held in Mombasa, with over 10,000 elementary school head teachers in attendance.

The cabinet secretary for education nudged and pressed the heads to embrace accountability in her message. Moreover, he asked that they ensure the full progression of teacher professional development.
Collins Oyuu, the Kenya National Teachers Union secretary general, was also in attendance. The secretary general thanked the government for announcing that the head teachers would be confirmed as junior school principals beginning in 2024.
However, Secretary General Collins Oyuu claims that this wonderful chance will only be available to those with excellent academic credentials.
Better opportunities were approaching, which acted as another reason to encourage educators to seek higher education.
Comprehensive school management identified a number of issues. Collins Oyuu states this. However, the sec gen said that these issues had to have been handled by the school headteachers.
The secretary general also expressed gratitude to this administration for stopping the delocalization of teachers. Additionally, he conveyed his appreciation to the administration for assigning additional teachers to help with the competency-based curriculum’s execution.
We anticipate more information from TSC about the promotion of P1 teachers to junior school administrator positions. Sources connected to the commission, however, suggest that the headteachers’ confirmation as principals will proceed.
The fact that some teachers hold master’s degrees and others hold PhDs but do not hold administrative positions presents a significant decision-making challenge for TSC. Let’s wait and see what the commission determines in the interim.
As per the competency-based curriculum, students in grade 7 will transition to grade 8 in 2024.
