Kenya’s Teachers Service Commission (TSC) has issued a fresh advisory to teachers regarding planned mass transfers scheduled for April 2026 under a new digital system designed to improve transparency and fairness in staff movement.
The transfer exercise will use the Teachers Transfer Online System, a digital platform that replaces the previous manual process and allows educators to apply for transfers electronically. According to the commission, this approach is expected to reduce bureaucracy and enhance equitable distribution of teachers across schools.
Under the new system, schools identified as having surplus teachers will have staff reassigned to institutions facing shortages based on data collected earlier this year from school heads. Teachers interested in moving to new stations must apply through the online portal, which matches individuals with potential swap opportunities automatically.
Teachers retain the right to accept or decline transfer offers generated by the system, and may submit two applications that remain active for 90 days each. If no suitable match is found after this period, the system may issue a transfer outcome letter.
The digital transfer process represents a departure from previous arrangements that relied on manual submissions and local administrative approvals. The commission has encouraged educators, including those who are de‑localised or seeking placements closer to home, to make use of the online platform ahead of the April exercise.
TSC administers teacher recruitment, deployment and transfers as part of its mandate under the Teachers Service Commission Act, ensuring staffing decisions align with national education needs.
