TSC Employment And Promotions For Upgraded P1 Teachers. All primary school teachers (P1 teachers) and ECDE instructors are now required by the Teachers Service Commission (TSC) to upgrade. They are to upgrade in areas that were not included in their previous training.
Since the commission has made it clear that it would not hire teachers who have not upgraded, the update is now crucial and required for all teachers.

TSC states that the goal of improving P1 teachers’ certifications and elevating their profession as instructors began in October 2021.
There are four spots available for Diploma Elementary Teacher Education (DPTE). In addition, there are five slots available for Diploma Early Childhood Teacher Education (DECTE) in the teacher upgrading process.
Both of these programs require practice hours in addition to extensive curriculum.
A teacher who has successfully advanced through the curriculum is qualified to teach any subject that is offered in your field of study.
Inside the Upgrading program
The upgrade programs require a total of 1176 academic hours for DECTE and 786 hours for DPTE.
Teaching experience totaling 300 hours is used in the PTE and ECDE upgrades.
That all P1 teachers only have to study in subjects they did not cover in college.
For the p1 teachers who are currently unemployed, the upgrading is an added advantage for them since they have enough time for enrollment
For those teachers in service ,they can spend the holidays to initiate a mixed upgrade program.
Requirements For P1 teachers upgrading to DPTE:
For Primary school teachers upgrading to DPTE, one must have a valid PTE certificate, be a registered teacher with the TSC.
Note alo that the upgrading course lasts for 1500 hours and it is fully residential in which one will be expected to cover all the courses specified in the Program for Upgradation of DPTE course.
The teacher will also be required to undertake 300 hours of teaching practice and also ensure that good ethics and behaviour are observed always.
Note that the teacher will be a awarded with a Diploma upon completing the required coursework and pass a Kenya National Examinations Council (KNEC) assessment.
Requirements For ECDE teachers upgrading to DECTE:
For these category of teachers, they need a valid ECDE certificate and be registered with the TSC.
The course study in this area lasts for 1890 hours and it is also fully residential.
In order for the Upgrade of DECTE to be acknowledged, completion of all program requirements is required.
In addition, the curriculum calls for 300 hours of practical teaching experience. Those who successfully finish the necessary coursework and pass an assessment administered by the Kenya National Examinations Council (KNEC) will receive a diploma.
Educators must also adhere to moral principles and conduct at this time.
