TSC Announces October Salary & Allowance Boost. Teachers in big cities stand to gain a great deal from the government’s Sh13 billion wage and benefit adjustment, which completes the 2021–2025 pay accord.
Housing allowances ranging from Sh4,500 to Sh50,000 would be given to educators stationed in major cities, such as Nairobi, Kisumu, Mombasa, Nakuru, and Eldoret, according to a statement released by the Teachers Service Commission (TSC).
Teachers in Nairobi stand to gain the most; the highest paid will receive housing allowances of up to Sh50,000, while the lowest paid would receive Sh6,750. TSC CEO Nancy Macharia released an official circular with this information.
In other urban areas such as Mombasa, Kisumu, Nakuru, Nyeri, Eldoret, Thika, Kisii, Malindi, and Kitale, housing allowances will range from Sh4,500 to Sh35,000.
The TSC has restructured clusters, placing Nairobi in Cluster 1 and other cities in Cluster 2, while all other regions fall into Cluster 3, where allowances range from Sh3,850 to Sh25,000.
While the housing allowance offers much-needed financial relief in high-cost areas, concerns linger about the adequacy of allowances in Cluster 3, potentially placing financial strain on teachers living in these regions.
Stakeholders worry about disparities in quality of life due to the varying allowances across clusters.

In addition to housing allowances, teachers will receive commuter, hardship, disability, and annual leave allowances. Commuter allowances will range from Sh4,000 to Sh16,000, and annual leave allowances will be between Sh4,000 and Sh10,000.
Teachers with disabilities will receive a flat-rate allowance of Sh20,000, while those in hardship areas can earn between Sh6,600 and Sh38,100.
The circular also details updates to salary scales, with increases ranging from Sh393 to Sh2,570 following previous adjustments in the Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA).
However, not all teachers will see these increases; those in pay grades C4, C5, D4, and D5 at the minimum pay level will not benefit.
Under the new deal, the lowest-paid teachers in Grade B5 would see their salary rise from Sh22,793 to Sh23,830, while those in job group C1 will receive a Sh1,296 boost, taking their pay to Sh29,787.
Teachers in group C2 will receive a pay increase of Sh1,666, bringing their salaries to Sh38,286. Teachers in group C3 will receive a pay increase of Sh45,671.
Teachers in job group D1 will receive the smallest raise, increasing their pay to Sh78,625 from Sh393. Teachers in work group D2 will receive a pay raise of Sh1,455, while those in job group D3 would receive a pay increase of Sh1,399, or Sh106,043.
Teachers will benefit from this thorough compensation adjustment, which will improve their financial stability and recognize their vital contribution in education.
