This year, the Teachers’ Service Commission (TSC) intends to promote 28, 288 more teachers in a variety of grade levels.
The figure will now raise the total number of promoted teachers in just two years to 59,792, according to commission chairperson Jamleck Muturi.
Muturi stated in a statement at the KCSE results announcement that the action is a part of their dedication to supporting professional development and resigning their labors.
“We encourage all eligible teachers to take advantage of this opportunity to advance their careers,” he said.
He attributed this to increased funding from the government.
Muturi at the same time stated that the commission has prioritised capacity building and development for the teachers.
To date, he said, they have 229, 292 primary school teachers retooling and an additional 60, 000 junior secondary school teachers being trained.
“These programmes ensure that our teachers are equipped with skills to effectively implement CBC and meet the diverse needs of our learners,” he said.
According to KNEC, a total of 965, 512 candidates registered for the examinations, an increase of 7.19 per cent which is the highest since 2020.
The candidates sat for the KCPE in March 2021.
