Salary Increment For Teachers Off As Govt Tames Wage Bill. The monthly salary reviews for civil servants will not be increased. Organizations have been warned against doing so in order to control excessive labor costs.
The move will help achieve fiscal sustainability and harmonisation. This is according to Salaries and Remuneration Commission (SRC) Chairperson Lyn Mengich. She made this statement on Monday during the 3rd National Wage Bill Conference at the Bomas of Kenya.
Financial sustainability and affordability are important factors in all collective bargaining agreements. Among other things, employers are thus cautioned against considering any evaluation of financial issues if there is no evidence of the ability to pay for and maintain a review,” the spokesperson said.
Mengich went on to say that all schools should offer salaries within the 50th percentile midpoint, and those who haven’t yet reached that level should do so as soon as possible.
“Institutions above this positioning will retain their salary structures whereas those below will progressively be moved towards the 50th percentile,” she stated.

A payment strategy used to provide simplified compensation for all public employees is the 50th percentile midpoint. The SRC decides what the point is.
The SRC advises the employer to implement a wage set at or close to the statutory median if a public servant is being paid less than the midpoint.
During the same convocation, Felix Koskei, the head of public service, asked employees to be patient as the government works to find a solution for the failing economy.
He remarked that the government is struggling to pay civil servants their salaries. Therefore it cannot afford to pay them more, the country must live within its means.
“We urge all the employers and employees of the unions to realise the state of the economy that this country has. The measures that the government has taken to turn around the economy. Also consider that at this time it is not possible to look for addition of salaries,” he stated.
As previously stated by President William Ruto, the government must practice fiscal restraint. Additionally, it must refrain from paying doctors more than the Treasury has authorized.

Doctors should accept what has been promised before the arrangement is pulled. Ruto underlined, as there won’t be any more money available to them.
Doctors have insisted that unless their demands—among others—are satisfied, they would not end their countrywide strike.
