New TSC Salary Scale & Grading System For Teachers. Over time, teacher unions have organized street protests to pressure the government to increase teachers’ pay and benefits.
After the Kenya Union of Teachers (KNUT) negotiated on behalf of the teachers, the Salaries and Remuneration Commission (SRC) agreed to raise their compensation in three parts. This issue has been resolved over time.

TSC Job Categories and Associated Pay Scales
The Teachers Service Commission (TSC) is in charge of licensing, hiring, assigning, and supervising educators in Kenya’s public schools. The various TSC Salaries and the instructors’ grading scheme that goes along with them are highlighted here.

New TSC Salary Scale & Grading System For Teachers
TSC Pay Scale for 2024
Teachers in both elementary and secondary schools are paid by TSC in accordance with their respective job groupings.
Commencing on July 1st, 2023, the new salary scales were to be introduced in two stages. July 1, 2024, will mark the start of the second phase of implementation for all instructors who are currently on duty.

New TSC Salary Scale & Grading System For Teachers
Basic Salary of C1 Teachers
We have Lecturer III, Secondary Teacher III, and Primary Teacher I in this job group. The range of their pay is Ksh. 28,491 to Ksh. 35,614.
Basic Pay For C4 Instructors
Jobs like Senior Lecturer IV, Senior Master IV, SNE Senior Teacher in primary, SNE Teacher I in secondary, and Deputy Headteacher II are all part of this job group. They too pay between Ksh. 52,308 and Ksh. 67,220.
Kenyan Secondary School Teachers’ Salary
Post-primary schools are the intended teaching environment for secondary school teachers. The pay scale for these educators starts at Ksh. 35,614 for Secondary Teacher III positions. The monthly compensation for principals is Ksh. 127,069.
Types of Allowances Paid by TSC
There two types of Allowances that are paid by the Teachers Service Commission. They include;
- Remunerative Allowance
- Reimbursable Allowance
Teachers receive reimbursable allowances upon application if they have used their own funds to carry out official duties. However, remunerative allowances are granted to teachers on a regular basis in addition to their monthly wage.
Kenyan Primary Teachers’ Salary
Primary school teachers receive a basic salary of Ksh. 28,491 for those in the lower employment group, while headteachers and others may receive up to Ksh. 78,667 monthly.
Kenya’s highest paid teachers
There’s no denying that post-primary teachers make more money than their elementary school counterparts.
Chief Principals are the members of the secondary school cadre who get the highest compensation from the commission.
Their salaries ranges from Ksh. 131,380 all the way to Ksh. 159,534 per month
