Machogu Refutes Claims Of School Fees Increase In 2024. The cabinet secretary for education Ezekiel Machogu has finally broken the silence on news concerning school fees. He has assured all parents and guardians that school fees for high school students will not increase. However, it will remain the same, unlike previous reports indicating it could be increased.
The cabinet secretary made this announcement during his visit to a school to oversee commencement of KCPE and KPSEA exams. He made this visit alongside president William Ruto in Kikuyu region.
Fee structure for national secondary schools
Machogu further reiterated that the school fees for national, extra county and all secondary schools will remain unchanged. For instance, national school fees is capped at sh 53,000. The above move by the government is to ensure that education is made free for all. With 100 percent transition, an increase in fees will lead to several learners missing education.
Additionally, fees for learners in county school will remain unchanged. They will continue paying sh. 45,000 annually . The CS assured the general public that is the stand of the government and that no modifications will be done. This will act as a sigh of relief to parents who are trying to make both ends meet with this harsh economic times.
100 percent transition policy
Machogu further clarified with 100 percent transition, all learners will be placed to secondary schools once their results are released. In addition, the CS clarified that examination papers have been successfully sent to all examination centers countrywide. These exams are set to run for 3 days and will be concluded on November 1st, 2023.
The above sentiments from CS Machogu were echoed by National Parents Association Chairman Silas Obuhatsa. He affirmed that there will be no increase in fees for year 2024. Obuhatsa confirmed that any future proposal to increase fees will not be accepted at all costs. He thrashed reports across the media indicating a fee increment and termed them as mere propaganda.
He indicated that in an event fees will be increased, school management boards and parents have to be involved in decision making.
In conclusion, it is now crystal clear that there is no fee increment. Parents can now breath a sigh of relief and enjoy the holiday in peace as they await for January 2024.
