The Form One selection list for the 2023 Kenya Certificate of Primary Education (KCPE) candidates was revealed by Education Cabinet Secretary Ezekiel Machogu. 1,400,329 of the 1,406,557 pupils who passed the KCPE exam have been accepted into different high schools around the country.
Machogu broke down the choices and found that there are 682,971 girls and 717,358 boys. 42,927 of the selected candidates—22,051 males and 20,876 girls—have been sent to national schools.
Furthermore, 276,746 children have been sent to Extra-County schools, while 288,201 students have been assigned to county schools. Sub-county schools are expected to enroll 792,230 students overall, comprising 423,171 boys and 369,059 girls.
Furthermore, 2,225 students with special needs, including 1,214 boys and 1,011 girls, have been placed in relevant institutions. Machogu emphasized that the selection process adhered strictly to the principles of merit, affirmative action, and availability of space. Overage students have been referred to the Directorate of Adults and Continuing Education.

Students scoring 400 and above were placed in either national or extra-county schools of their choice, while others were allocated to county schools based on set parameters.
Special needs students were placed in disability or regular schools, considering their disability categories, merits, and choices.
Notably, 130 students from informal settlements in urban areas were placed in national schools, and 167 in extra-county institutions (150 girls and 147 boys). Vulnerable and marginalized learners scoring 280 and above (a total of 14,426) will benefit from government scholarships.
Candidates with special needs and disabilities scoring 280 and below, as well as refugees achieving specific scores, will also be eligible for scholarships.
The Elimu scholarships, in collaboration with the Jomo Kenyatta Foundation and the Equity Group Foundations, will extend support to 52,000 beneficiaries. The official joining date for Form One is set for January 15, 2024.
Candidates can access placement results through the Ministry of Education website, searching for Form One placements. The results are also available via the Kenya Education Management Information System (KEMIS).

Additionally, candidates can download forms with Form One joining instructions from the same website. This Form One cohort marks the transition from the 8-4-4 curriculum to the Competence-Based Curriculum (CBC) in the education sector.
