List Of 2155 Schools That Will Not Reopen On Monday. Despite President William Ruto’s order for classes to begin on May 13, some 2,155 schools would not be able to reopen for the second term as scheduled on Monday.
Ezekiel Machogu, the cabinet secretary for education, reports that approximately 5% of schools are having difficulties as a result of flood damage. Seven counties—including Tana River, Homa Bay, and Kisumu—being particularly affected.
Prior to the start of classes again, these places still need major repairs due to flood-related difficulties.
Machogu stated that in order to prevent children from losing out on educational opportunities, alternative measures are being examined for the impacted institutions.
He underlined the necessity of further initiatives, particularly in schools that account for fewer than 5%—possibly even less than 2%—of all the schools impacted.
The start of the second term was postponed indefinitely because of torrential rains that disrupted regular activities and destroyed school facilities. The original plan was to reopen on April 29.

Machogu declared that the second term would be extended by a few days, particularly for Form 4 candidates, in order to make up for lost time. The goal of this extension is to preserve the necessary hours of student-teacher interaction.
Machogu stated that a complete list of the schools that would be impacted is still being compiled and will be made public once it is complete.
The reopening date was announced by President Ruto following predictions that the rainy season had abated. He urged parents to get their kids ready for school while assuring them of the government’s readiness.
In order to ensure a seamless return of educational activities, Interior Principal Secretary Raymond Omollo stressed the need for regional administration representatives to be activated in order to supervise school safety, especially in impacted areas.
This initiative is being led by county, regional, and national government administration officers (NGAOs).
Additionally, Omollo stated that between now and Monday, boarding school pupils will progressively return to their establishments.
