The Kenya National Examinations Council (KNEC) has announced that invigilators, supervisors and other examination personnel who participated in the administration of the 2025 national examinations will begin receiving their payments from Thursday, August 6, 2026.
The announcement was confirmed by KNEC Chief Executive Officer David Njengere amid growing concerns over delays in paying teachers who took part in the Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE), Kenya Junior School Education Assessment (KJSEA) and Kenya Primary School Education Assessment (KPSEA).

According to a statement issued on Tuesday, Basic Education Principal Secretary John Ololtuaa said the Ministry of Education had already released the required funds to KNEC, paving the way for payments to commence on the scheduled date.
Ololtuaa made the remarks while appearing before the National Assembly Departmental Committee on Education, where lawmakers sought an update on the delayed allowances for teachers and other personnel who supervised the 2025 national examinations.
The announcement comes after months of complaints from examination officials and pressure from the Kenya Union of Post-Primary Education Teachers> (KUPPET), which had warned that teachers could boycott this year’s examinations if the outstanding payments were not settled.
Although some examiners have reportedly received their allowances, KUPPET maintains that thousands of teachers are still waiting for payment despite the National Treasury previously confirming that funds had been released. The union had also claimed that KNEC required an additional KSh4 billion to clear all pending dues.
Despite the latest assurance, some teachers have expressed skepticism on social media, noting that similar promises have been made over the past several months without the payments being processed. Many said they would only be convinced once they receive official payment notifications.
With the 2026 national examination period drawing closer, teachers and examination personnel will now be watching closely to see whether KNEC fulfills its commitment to begin payments on August 6.
