The Higher Education Loans Board (HELB) has opened the loan application window for the Kenya Medical Training College (KMTC) students pursuing Certificate and Diploma courses for the 2026/2027 period.
The application window is open from Friday, August 21, and will remain open until September 30.
In a statement on Tuesday, August 25, KMTC announced that eligible students should submit their applications before the deadline to avoid the last-minute rush.
“When you ask us, we listen. You asked us for a HELB loan. Now, we have some good news for you,” KMTC said.
“The HELB 2026/2027 KMTC Loan Application is now open for students pursuing Certificate and Diploma courses. Application window: August 21- September 30 2026,” it added.
How to Apply
Applicants are required to register and submit their details online via the Higher Education Financing Portal.
Select the KMTC loan.
Follow the provided application instructions and eligibility requirements.
Review all the information you have filled in to ensure there are no errors, then submit.
After submitting, you will receive an application number via SMS or Email as confirmation.
The move comes weeks after the college confirmed that its students will begin accessing higher education loans following a commitment by President William Ruto.
For years, KMTC students have largely relied on a revolving fund arrangement, unlike university students who have traditionally accessed loans and scholarships through HELB.
The inclusion of KMTC learners in the Higher Education Financing programme is expected to bridge that gap and place medical trainees on a similar footing with their counterparts in universities and other tertiary institutions.
The move is expected to bring relief to thousands of students who have long struggled to finance their studies due to limited access to structured government funding programmes.
