Teachers To Be Taxed More Next Year. In the event that Treasury’s proposal to raise taxes is approved by parliament, teachers and civil officials would face further hardship since the government plans to implement a new deduction on their paystubs beginning in January.
In order to help the government raise money, certain provisions from the Finance Bill 2024 that was rejected have been resurrected by the Treasury, which is managed by CS John Mbadi.
The Public Officers Medical Scheme Fund, a statutory deduction that must be shown on paystubs, is one of the levies that are being suggested.
To support the fund, taxes will be collected from all public officials, including civil personnel and teachers.
Teachers will now be covered by a third medical plan, the Public Officers Medical Scheme, in addition to AON Minet and SHIF.
The purpose of the Public Officers Medical Scheme Fund shall be to finance the provision of a medical scheme for public officers in addition to the social health insurance benefit package provided under the Social Health Insurance Act.

The National Assembly shall appropriate the amount to be deducted though sources say a two percent deduction has been proposed.
Members of the National Assembly have already agreed to pass the proposal by December to allow its rollout in January next year.
