TSC Secondary School Teacher Entry Qualifications. . To teach in a secondary school in Kenya, a teacher must hold a degree or a credential recognized by the Teachers Service Commission (TSC).
The minimal requirements for each category are listed below:
Teachers with Diplomas:
1. Holding an education credential from an accredited teacher preparation program.
2. Scoring at least a C+ in the KCSE or its equivalent (having passed one A-level principal and two subsidiary exams).
3. At least a C+ or credit pass in the two teaching subjects.
It’s important to note that two categories of candidates are exempt from the above qualifications:

– Diploma teachers who graduated in 2008 or earlier with a mean grade of C (plain) in the two teaching subjects.
– Hearing impaired and blind teachers should posses the following qualifications
i. Minimum grade C Plain in KCSE and above.
ii. At least C minus in English
iii. C (minus) in Mathematics for Science based courses
iv. D( plain) in Mathematics in non-science based courses
Graduate Teachers:
For those holding a degree, the following qualifications apply:
A minimum of two principal and one subsidiary pass at the “A” Level, or an equivalent grade of C+ in each of the two teaching topics, is required for the KCSE.
– Holding a Bachelor of Science/Arts with Education degree with two teaching subjects, or a Bachelor of Education degree with two topics taught.
