EACC To Arrest Rogue Principals. Parents who are applying for their children’s admission to Form One are being urged by the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) to report any incidents in which school principals ask for money in exchange for consideration.
The commission has received complaints from parents who claim that some school principals are asking for payments in exchange for Form One admission letters, according to Eric Ngumbi, the spokesperson for the EACC.
Ngumbi cited situations in which principals have withheld acceptance letters in exchange for sums ranging from Sh10,000 to Sh15,000.
“It is very unfortunate that principals are now an emerging group of corrupt people. Someone may say that it is their season because it is time when form ones are being admitted,” He noted.
EACC To Arrest Rogue Principals
With the 2023 KCPE candidates scheduled to join Form One on January 15 , Education CS Ezekiel Machogu released the Form One placement results on December 18, 2023, giving parents time to prepare for the admission process.
Machogu announced that the selection results and placement process are accessible by visiting the ministry’s official website.
“Upon downloading the joining instructions, the candidate must present the letter to the head teacher of the primary school where they sat their KCPE Examination for authentication,” he stated.
The CS elaborated that the authenticity of the letter would be determined by the principal of the admitting school.
“Principals are advised to confirm that letters presented to them belong to learners who will strictly be on their selection list. Primary and Secondary Schools can access their selection lists from the NEMIS platform,” he stated
Some parents who were dissatisfied with their children’s assigned schools chose to explore alternative options, prompting certain principals, according to the EACC, to demand bribes in exchange for available admission slots.
In response, the EACC is encouraging parents to report any instances of corruption involving principals who are seeking or accepting bribes in exchange for admission letters
