Junior secondary school teachers will receive vital training from the Center for Mathematics, Science, and Technology Education in Africa (CEMASTEA) in 2024. This is in a bid to assist them enhance their capacity to implement the Competency Based Curriculum (CBC) successfully.
Cemastea aims to provide pedagogical subject knowledge to about 9,595 teachers who are now allocated to enhance instruction in Pre-Technical studies, Agriculture, and Nutrition.
This will facilitate the 60% of junior secondary students who will be moving to the government-designated STEM (science, technology, engineering, and mathematics) track in the new senior secondary schools.
In order to help with the application and realization of learner-centered approaches, Cemastea Raining has been devised to solve the teaching and learning gaps that are present in Junior Secondary in terms of the interpretation of the CBC designs now in grade 8.
Teachers from all 47 counties participate in the program, which also covers inquiry-based learning (IBL), creative teaching and learning activities, lesson planning for instructors, and the use of ICT in Grade 8 curriculum designs.
