Another Compulsory Subject Added Under CBC Curriculum. According to Education Cabinet Secretary Ezekiel Machogu, the new curriculum should make performing arts mandatory.
Machogu stressed that since performing arts have been included into the curriculum of the Competency-Based Curriculum (CBC), they ought to be taught from pre-primary to higher education institutions. He said this while he was at the Kenya National Drama Festivals at Kangaru Girls High School in Embu.
He said, “We’ll even have learning materials in the CBC syllabus.”
Machogu went on to say that participation in performing arts competitions is a requirement for all educational institutions.
Machogu stated, “The government is taking the matter seriously and performing art is not optional.”
The Cabinet Secretary observed that the Kenyan children possessed potential in both music and theater and that their abilities needed to be supported.
“To capitalize on the enormous potential we have in the nation, we are heavily investing in performing arts. Our young people have exceptional talent, and some of them may even go on to compete internationally,” stated Machogu.
Machogu remarked that kids’ performances were improving and asked teachers to support them.

He declared, “Our children will go far and we have great improvements in performance compared to the previous competition that was held in Mombasa.”
Mr. Machogu demonstrated the government’s dedication to CBC’s success for the good of students and the nation as a whole.
In order to stop the problem occurring in those schools, Machogu also stated that the government is determined to construct classrooms in primary schools and hire 20,000 instructors in junior schools.
According to Machogu, the government has allocated Sh. 9 billion for the development of infrastructure in order to increase the amount of space available for education. This year’s National Government Constituency Development Fund (NG-CDF) will take the Sh. 9 billion into account.
