All TSC Teachers To Attend Scheduled TPD Training. Teachers are being requested to be ready for the start of the Teacher Professional Development (TPD) training program.
The program will be provided in a number of commission-approved centers. This request comes from the Teachers Service Commission (TSC).
This year’s TPD program strives to guarantee that there is quality in teaching and learning experiences in all schools. It has received assistance from the government, unlike previous years.
In order to guarantee the seamless operation of this program, TSC sent out an invitation, with a deadline of February 14, 2024. The invite was asking all educational institutions interested in offering teacher training to submit an application in order to be considered for hosting.
It is anticipated that the training would begin in December 2024. This will be during school holiday when classes are not in session.
Even after this was stated, it is still unclear if teachers will continue to pay for their own subscriptions to the supposedly contentious program or if the government will bear the expense.
Teachers claim that the president still has the last say because he already committed to paying for teacher training during his 2022 electoral campaigns.
The president had said that the government would fund capacity-building initiatives, including free teacher Continuous Professional Development for trainers.
All TSC Teachers To Attend Scheduled TPD Training
Exactly two years ago, in September 2021, TSC reintroduced TPD in the face of teacher objections following the program’s initial introduction.
Teachers will receive professional training from both the Kenya Education Management Institute and Riara University.
Among the four universities providing this program were Mt. Kenya University and Kenyatta University.
Teachers who signed up for the TPD program had to pay sh 6,000 a year for six courses, each of which took years to finish.
Teachers that participated in TPD sessions during the most recent training did so during evening and night classes. Upon completing five areas of the introduction module, they were awarded a certificate.
The important introductory module areas that were covered include:
a.Teacher Professionalism
b.The CBC Pedagogy and Inclusive c.Practices
d.Assessment
e.Comprehensive School Health and Safety
f.Instructional Leadership and Financial Literacy.
