TSC Sends Show Cause Letters To Teachers. Head teachers of primary schools that did not pass the previous year’s exam are now receiving show-cause letters from the Teachers Service Commission (TSC).
In the 2023 Kenya Certificate of Primary Education (KCPE), teachers with a mean grade of less than 250 have received letters from their Sub-County Directors requesting them to explain their actions.
The impacted school head teachers, according to TSC, are currently battling with the letters that demand a prompt and thorough explanation of why they did not achieve the minimal mean scores in their 2023 performance contracts.

The commission has given teachers fourteen days to respond and give a reason to as why disciplinary action should not be taken against them as well as the measures they will put in place address the available gaps.
Head teachers and principals signed the 2024 TSC performance contracts with the teachers.
In the signed agreement, performance contracts captured KPSEA and KCSE targeted mean scores to be met by the school heads in this year’s examinations.
Part of the acceptance declaration from the head of institution indicate the commitment to provide the required leadership in
designing suitable plans and strategies to deliver educational services and enable school realize its
goals.
The agreement further indicates that the headteacher will perform all duties and responsibilities diligently and to the best of their abilities to support the achievement of the agreed performance targets.

Those who fail to hit the target will get show cause letters from TSC .
TSC is currently working on a system meant to enable it monitor performance of primary head teachers under Competency Based Curriculum .
Under the latest agreement, final scores in grade 6 KPSEA through the Kenya Primary School Education Assessment will be translated to check the performance of primary school head teachers.
A good number of primary school teachers have faced the wrath and hostility from parents upon parents realizing that their schools recorded poor KCPE results.
In the 2023 Kenya Certificate of Primary School examination, there were about 1,415,315 candidates who sat for the KCPE exams as another 1,282,574 learners registered for sat KPSEA assessment.
2023 Kenya Certificate of Primary Education (KCPE) saw the top performer scoring a total of scored 428 marks.
