TSC Salary & Allowances For Deputy Principals & Senior Masters. The Teacher’s Service Commission (TSC) has implemented salary hikes for Deputy Principals II and Senior Masters I under Grade D2 (T Scale 12).
This amendment, which was signed in August 2023, aims to address persistent problems with teacher morale and compensation. In the past, Kenyan educators have advocated for better pay and working conditions.
The 2021–2025 CBA was initially regarded as a significant step in the right direction toward resolving these problems. Deputy Principals and Senior Masters in this category currently receive a basic salary of 92,119 Kenyan Shillings.
The commission’s commitment to increasing teacher compensation is evident from this large rise.
In addition to their base wage, teachers below the D2 grade receive a range of allowances to enhance their financial security. These include yearly leave, hardship, disability guide allowances, and commuter benefits.

The hardship payment, valued at 12,000 Kenyan Shillings, acknowledges the challenges that educators may face when working in challenging or isolated settings.
A commuter payment of 27,300 Kenyan Shilling is also given to lecturers to help with continuing transportation expenses. In addition, they get an annual leave payout of 10,000 Kenyan Shilling, which allows them to take well-earned breaks and refuel for their important task.
In addition, 20,000 Kenyan Shillings are given to teachers in Grade D2 as a disability guide allowance. This stipend is meant to assist teachers who might face challenges in their roles due to disabilities.
The TSC’s commitment to improving teacher welfare and ensuring fair compensation for their invaluable contributions to education is demonstrated by these pay raises and benefits.
