President Ruto Announces Return Of Kazi Mtaani. While on a development trip in Nakuru County on Monday, President William Ruto made hints on Kazi Mtaani’s impending return.
The Head of State terminated the initiative, which was launched by the former President Uhuru Kenyatta, in September 2022, claiming it served as a means of stealing public funds.
Ruto announced while in Nakuru that he would begin implementing the program’s return the following week after listening to Kenyans who wanted it back.
Women in this room have expressed to me their desire for Kazi Mtaani. “I mentioned in that Kazi Mtaani that 500 people will be employed here under that plan as of next week,” he declared.
“This is so that we can make sure more young people can get employment opportunities.”
The program enables eligible Kenyan youth to take up cleaning up exercise of government and public infrastructure in exchange for a daily stipend.

Apart from accusing the former administration of using the project to loot public resources, Ruto further claimed there were more dignified jobs the youth could undertake to earn a living.
“Kazi Mtaani is outdated now, the work now is building affordable houses. We will have enough job opportunities for our young people without using them to collect garbage,” Ruto stated then.
At the time, Kazi Mtaani used to employ 500 youth from every ward on a rotational basis.
According to the new directive by the President, similarly, the return of the Kazi Mtaani Programme will see 500 youth contracted from every region.
It was not immediately apparent from President William Ruto if the Kazi Mtaani would be implemented nationwide or only in Nakuru Town.
Ruto’s administration had not yet created a policy or allocated funds for the program before making the political statement.
The Kenya Kwanza administration’s previous efforts to end unemployment in the nation are anticipated to be strengthened by the Kazi Mtaani program.
These comprise, among other things, the development of digital jobs, the export of human labor, and the affordable housing initiative.
