Moi University Announces Official Reopening Date. On October 3, Moi University closed Indefinitely.
Students will be able to return to Moi University on Friday, November 8, after it reopens on Thursday, November 7.
Prior to the university’s reopening, Moi University Vice Chancellor (VC) Prof. Isaac Kosgey provided a schedule of events in a statement.
According to Kosgei, on Saturday, November 2, the University Management Board met in consultation with the Universities Academic Staff Union (UASU) and the Kenya Universities Staff Union (KUSU).
Prior to another bargaining meeting on Tuesday, the VC also revealed that a similar meeting will take place on Monday, November 4.
At the same time, Kosgei noted that there will be a negotiation meeting and signing of the Return-to-Work Formula (RTWF) with UASU and KUSU on Wednesday, November 6.
“Further communication will follow in due course,” Prof. Kosgei remarked.
Higher Education Principal Secretary Dr. Beatrice Inyangala maintained that officials from the State Department will be at Moi University to welcome back the students.

“Moi University reopens! This is the schedule of activities leading to the reopening of Moi University. The State Department for Higher Education and Research will be at Moi University on Friday, November 8, 2024, to welcome the students back to the university,” Inyangala stated.
On October 3, Moi University was closed indefinitely following a prolonged lecturers’ strike that led to the strike of the students.
The lecturers and workers at the institution downed their tools over delayed salaries, something that crippled learning at the university.
Meanwhile, on Friday, November 1, Moi University refuted reports that it was planning to transfer its students to other universities over allegations of financial difficulties.
Moi University VC Kosgei stated that the institution was committed to providing quality education and ensuring that students continued with learning smoothly without disruption.
