The union KUPPET expressed serious discontent with the lack of promotions for over 50,000 teachers in different work grades, with a focus on C5 and C4 teachers in particular.
According to the unions, these instructors have remained in the same work category for a long time without changing.
Following a recent Teachers Service Commission (TSC) meeting in Naivasha, the KUPPET union petitioned the government to provide the TSC an additional Sh1 billion so that it could begin promoting more than 30,000 teachers right now..

This number is among the 50,000 who have remained in the same job category for an extended period.
Akelo Misori, current Secretary-General (SG) of KUPPET, further emphasized that the priority would be given to current C4 and C5 teachers for promotion.
On the other hand , Misori stated that these educators will be relocated to positions labeled as C5 and D1.
This will allow the other long-serving teachers stuck in Grade C3 an opportunity for advancement.
In the recently concluded promotion rounds of 2023 and 2024, KUPPET union had noted that approximately 7,400 C4 teachers were overlooked for promotion.
Their duration in the present grade is shorter than three years, which is the reason behind this.The instructors are now looking forward to TSC and the union implementing this agreement.
Teachers in C4 and C5 will earn more money thanks to TSC promotions, which will also help them advance in their careers.
The commission would also prioritize hiring more junior secondary school teachers on permanent and pensionable terms, especially for those who are now interns, after the parliamentary budget allocation.
